Camp Sibert cleanup: "Public support is critical to everything we do"

A sparse crowd attended a public information open house hosted by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at the Attalla community center Tuesday night.

The event consisted of informational displays and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers officials on hand for questions about the third phase of its environmental investigation of the old Camp Sibert area.

The former Camp Sibert is a 37,035-acre area formerly used defense site. It was a chemical weapons training facility during World War II and is in St. Clair and Etowah counties.
