Testing finds TCE Chemical detected at former Salina base By DUANE SCHRAG Salina Journal (KS) April 27, 2007High concentrations of a solvent commonly associated with liquid oxygen plants have been detected near the spot where the former Schilling Air Force Base's liquid oxygen plant was located. Local officials had predicted that trichloroethylene would be found in groundwater and soil on the northeast side of the former base in west Salina. A new round of soil and groundwater testing by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers found TCE concentrations as high as 7,700 parts per billion. The limit for drinking water is 5 ppb. ...
