A TOXIC LEGACY: The military in Hampton Roads Patrick Lynch and John M.R. Bull Daily Press (VA) June 10, 2007While researching the region's unexploded munitions, Daily Press science and environmental reporter Patrick Lynch and John M.R. Bull decided to take a closer look at a longstanding yet little publicized problem: pollution on military bases. The military has long been considered the country's largest single polluter. But 20 years have gone by since the Pentagon began to clean up the many and varied problems on active bases. Bull and Lynch found that the years were spent mostly on study after study at the four Peninsula bases listed on the federal Superfund list as some of the nation's highest cleanup priorities. ...
