ENVIRONMENT: Feds, residents battle for info By Aaron Besecker Niagara Gazette (NY) June 26, 2007Appointed community volunteers continue to push a federal agency for access to information being used in an investigation of radiological and chemical contamination left by the Defense and Energy departments. Representatives on the Restoration Advisory Board for the former Lake Ontario Ordnance Works, in a recent letter to federal officials, said they believe they have been denied the chance to provide input in the process. "The (advisory board) and the community at large, through legal definitions, are prohibited from being any part of the review and development of U.S. Army Corps of Engineers plans and decisions...," board officials wrote in a May 29 letter to the commander of the Corps' Buffalo District, Lt. Col. John S. Hurley. Officials from the Army Corps have indicated they want to use the law to prevent public interference in the planned cleanup, according to the letter signed by Walter D. Garrow, chair of the board's Steering Committee, and Joseph A. Gardella Jr., co-vice chair. ...
