RAB tour shows clean up work continues at Ordnance Plant By Joe Evans Ashland Gazette (NE) July 5, 2007MEAD - Cleanup work continues to roll on at the former Nebraska Ordnance Plant near Mead. During a tour of the site, led by United States Army Corps of Engineers, updates were given about the status of water contamination cleanup efforts. The Corps is responsible for containment and clean up of the former munitions manufacturing plant site south of Mead. Chemicals such as RDX (an explosive) and TCE that were used during operations at the ordnance plant have caused contamination in groundwater, soil and surface water. The tour made multiple stops within the former Nebraska Ordnance Plant site south of Mead. The first stop was by extraction well 11, which is being cleaned and prepared to go back online. "The well produces fine, but sitting for years has created some build up in it," said Dave Dander, Environmental Chemical Corporation hydrologist. ...
