Senators to visit school near former bombing range Rich McKay Orlando Sentinel (FL) July 27, 2007Florida's two U.S. senators are planning to tour the grounds of Odyssey Middle School on Monday as part of their efforts to keep the political pressure on the Pentagon to clean up a forgotten World War II bombing range on which the school was built. The Army Corps of Engineers said that at least two live bombs were found about 1,500 feet from the schoolyard by a survey company hired by a private property owner about two weeks ago. The bombs were destroyed by a demolition crew from Patrick Air Force Base, but Corps officials said that more unexploded bombs, as well as dangerous chemicals and mercury leaking from old weaponry, could be out there on the 12,483-acre range. ...
