Puunene building site needs PCB cleanup Maui News July 26, 2007PUUNENE - The site of a former transformer building at the old Puunene airfield that previously was used by the military is contaminated with PCB, polychlorinated biphenyl, and will require extensive cleanup, including removal of contaminated soil. In a submittal to the state Board of Land and Natural Resources, the land management staff said the Army Corps of Engineers determined that PCB contamination extended outside of the old building on one corner of a 293-acre parcel leased to the Hawaiian Commercial & Sugar Co. The contaminated site, which includes a Word War II-era bunker, is not under cultivation by HC&S, a land management agent said. ...
