Air Force well to attack newfound toxic plume in Falmouth By Amanda Lehmert Cape Cod Times (MA) August 8, 2007FALMOUTH - The Air Force is adding a new treatment well to clean up a previously undetected portion of a toxic chemical plume flowing under Hatchville. The Air Force has been treating the plume of ethylene dibromide (EDB) since 1997, which was soon after the fuel additive was found upwelling in the Coonamessett River. The Air Force installed an extraction well and shallow well points to clean the EDB before it gets into the river and the adjacent cranberry bogs, which use the river water for irrigation. "Our goal is to keep EDB out of the river," said Jon Davis, Air Force Installation Restoration Program manager. ...
