No rush to get rid of discarded munitions BY JAMES GILBERT YUMA SUN (AZ) September 16, 2007The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers recently inspected five sites in Yuma County that were once used as training camps in World War II, in search of discarded military munitions and unexploded ordnance. According to project manager Matthew Shun, east county areas are among the many former military installations throughout the United States that are currently being inspected as part of the Department of Defense's Military Munitions Response Site Prioritization program. "All the sites in Yuma are between Interstate 8 and Interstate 10, in that area," said Shun, of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers' Los Angeles District. "This was just a brief visual first inspection. There will be a more extensive inspection later." ...
