Explosives may be floating into creek Mesh to catch flow of ammo in stream at arsenal By Bob Downing Akron Beacon Journal (OH) October 16, 2007The Army says it intends to install wire mesh barriers across a Portage County creek to keep explosives from moving downstream at the closed Ravenna Army Ammunition Plant. The action, requested by the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency, comes after an incident June 19, when a white phosphorous rifle grenade exploded. No one was injured after the grenade went off at the edge of a one-time dumping area called Rocket Ridge that sits next to Sand Creek and is near the center of the 21,419-acre complex in eastern Portage and western Trumbull counties. ...
