Arsenal to start neutralizing wartime chemical By Cassie Hewlings The Denver Post (CO) November 13, 2007 Officials at the Rocky Mountain Arsenal will begin work tomorrow to neutralize a blistering agent discovered during a trench excavation Oct. 31 and investigate the source of the World War I-era chemical agent. The lewisite, manufactured at the arsenal until 1943, was detected during excavation at the Lime Basin, a restricted area. At the time, no workers showed symptoms of exposure to the agent, and according to a press release, air-monitoring samples taken since the initial discovery haven't detected any new lewisite. During the investigation, which is expected to last about four days, crews will spray a neutralizing chemical throughout the worksite to suppress the agent in the soil. ...
