Officials Monitor Perchlorate Amounts in Drinking Water Despite safer standards, Newhall County Water District keeps an eye on supplies. By Jim Holt Santa Clarita Signal (CA) November 27, 2007 Despite safer standards set by the state last month limiting the trace amounts of rocket fuel in drinking water, local water officials say they've been monitoring the harmful chemical for a long time. On Oct. 18, the state adopted an official perchlorate drinking water standard which sets the maximum concentration level for the rocket fuel chemical at six parts for every billion parts of water. Steve Cole, general manager of the Newhall County Water District, says he and others at the district have been monitoring the chemical's impact on local water supplies since 1997 when the chemical turned up in Sacramento drinking water. ...
