ARMY CORPS: LOOW no threat by DAN MINER Niagara Gazette (NY) December 15, 2007 The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has announced there are “no imminent hazards to safety or health from radiological or chemical exposure,” at the former Lake Ontario Ordnance Works site in Lewiston and Porter. That statement, which came in the form of an Army Corps new release Friday, effectively wraps up the latest round of testing at the 191-acre property, which was once a TNT manufacturing plant for nation’s armed forces during and after World War II. The site was also used for other weapons production and still houses radiological wastes created during the Manhattan Project. Numerous cleanups of the area have been attempted over the past several decades by federal agencies and departments. ...
