Officials say bombs at Odyssey Middle School no threat to kids
But not everyone feels reassured after unearthed ordnance was blown up 
at an Orlando school.

Moments after dozens of World War II-era bombs were blown up Saturday on 
the Odyssey Middle School campus, school leaders and politicians 
reassured parents that it's safe to send their children back to classes.

Orange County schools Superintendent Ron Blocker and School Board member 
Daryl Flynn, whose district includes Odyssey Middle, said there is no 
danger to faculty, staff or students at the southeast Orlando school, 
which opened in 2001 on the site of a former 12,483-acre range used in 
the 1940s for military target practice.

Blocker and Flynn said they plan to be on hand Monday to welcome about 
1,300 students after winter break. Blocker said he would send a taped 
telephone message to families during the weekend to inform them of the 
detonations and assure them the school is safe. Four hundred pounds of 
explosives and a ton of debris were found on the grounds and up to 8 
feet under the school's running track.
