Key developer must check high-tech site for bombs, Orange County says Orange lays down rules for high-tech site David Damron Orlando Sentinel (FL) February 6, 2008 Orange County commissioners agreed Tuesday to require a key developer in the proposed Innovation Way project to ensure that no bombs or munitions are left over from a World War II-era bombing range it sits on. County leaders also signaled that other Innovation Way developers inside or next to the former practice range may face added requirements before winning final approval to build in what Orange County Mayor Rich Crotty has touted as a future housing and high-technology corridor. Since August, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has unearthed live explosives, munitions, and bomb and rocket debris at nearby Odyssey Middle School and surrounding ranches and yards. Given that the area was an Army munitions practice site in the 1940s, some fear the old Pinecastle Jeep Range debris might have strayed beyond its borders. ...
