Nassau OKs plan to use Grumman land to create jobs BY WILLIAM MURPHY AND SID CASSESE Long Island Newsday (NY) February 12, 2008 The Nassau County Legislature voted yesterday to launch a plan to turn more than 100 acres of the old Grumman property in Bethpage into a massive incubator for the next generation of jobs on Long Island. Lawmakers voted unanimously to acquire 96 acres from the the U.S. Navy, and lease 9 acres that still hold contaminants from decades of industrial use. With deed in hand, the county will request proposals later this year on the sale and eventual use of the land. County Executive Thomas Suozzi says he wants to build an industrial park on the site catering to high-tech industries with the greatest promise for growth. ...
