Initial approval granted to give BNAS annex land to SAD 75

TOPSHAM - The U.S. Department of Education has approved giving School 
Administrative District 75 land at the Brunswick Naval Air Station 
Topsham Annex at no cost - a recommendation that now must be seconded by 
the Navy.

A letter from Mary Hughes of the U.S. Department of Education's Federal 
Real Property Assistance Program acknowledges the district's May 15, 
2007 application for the approximately 17-acre parcel.

The DOE approval is contingent on "satisfactory remediation" of any 
environmental contamination that may be discovered during environmental 
investigation of the property before the Navy assigns the property to 
the DOE for conveyance to SAD 75.
