I am at a loss why the Army does not recognize the technology developed
by Underwater Ordnance Recovery Inc. ( www.uwuxo.com ) for the remote
robotic recovery of underwater munitions. They always bring out the
divers-in-the-water recovery system but then conclude mass cleanups are
not feasible by manual methods. This is true as far as it goes but
there is now a cost-effective alternative to abandonment and manual
recovery.

The estimate to clean up 3,000 acres of the Lake Michigan impact area
for lead bullets and 3" artillery fired from this range (formerly part
of Great Lakes Naval Station) is $27 million. Our group is in federal
court in the Northern District of Illinois to have this cleanup ordered.
