EPA pushing for water probe Meets with 5 parties on Rialto's situation Jason Pesick San Bernardino Sun (CA) April 22, 2008 RIALTO - The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency is taking steps to prod five parties to further investigate the extent of water contamination here. The five parties - which the EPA has identified for the first time as potential polluters - are the Charlotte, N.C.-based Goodrich Corp., local fireworks company Pyro Spectaculars, the defunct Black & Decker division of Emhart Industries and two property owners, Ken Thompson Inc. and Chung Ming Wong. "We're looking for them to do additional testing and investigation work - the bulk of which will be to install and sample another half-dozen monitoring wells," said Wayne Praskins, project manager for the EPA in San Francisco. Rialto's groundwater is contaminated with an ingredient in explosives - perchlorate - and industrial cleaning solvents. Although officials say no contaminated water is being served to residents, Rialto, Colton and even the state of California have so far been unable to hold any of the suspected polluters responsible. ...
