Pool plan gets board approval

The Fairfield Board of Selectmen approved the concept plan set forth by 
the Local Redevelopment Authority for the conveyance of the John S. 
Turner U.S. Army Reserve site, located at 180 High Street, from the 
Department of the Army, via a public benefit conveyance, and a 
recommendation for an indoor town pool, with an amendment, in a 2-1 
vote, on April 16.

The U.S. Department of Defense appointed the LRA to come up with a use 
for the army site.

The Turner site is located in a residential neighborhood on High Street, 
across the street from Gould Manor Park. Built in 1954, the Turner site 
is a 17,000 square-foot brick building on approximately 5 acres of land.

The Turner facility is available to the town for free if the town meets 
the Department of Defense criteria.
