House Approves $10 Million for Local Atomic Plant Cleanup WHIO Radio (Dayton, OH) May 23, 2008MIAMISBURG, Ohio-- The U.S. House of Representatives has approved $10 million to complete the environmental cleanup of the old Cold War atomic plant (the former Mound Plant). However it still must be approved by the Senate before it can go to the President's desk. The funds were approved by the House Thursday night as part of the fiscal 2009 Defense Authorization Bill. It'll also include $41.5 million in projects at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base. U.S. Rep. Mike Turner, said, "this final investment should be what is needed to reach the finish line" on the $1 billion environmental remediation of the plant. "The Mound cleanup is important for both health and economic development reasons and will benefit our region for many years to come." ...
