Property declared safe after six decades By Tom MacCallum Richmond County Daily Journal (NC) May 21, 2008After 63 years, Millstone 4-H Camp has been declared safe by a military munitions team charged with making sure the 348 acres don't pose a threat. "No human or ecological health risks are known based on results of the soil and surface water sampling and analysis conducted during this site investigation," said a report conducted for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. ...Ever since the end of World War II and the decommissioning of training fields at Camp Mackall - most of which are now part of the Sandhills Game Land and Millstone Camp - the USACE has conducted periodic studies to be sure no live munitions remain in the area. ...
