UTSA study shows Port San Antonio's economic impact is growing

The Port San Antonio's estimated economic impact on the city of San 
Antonio is now at $3.3 billion, according to the results of a 2008 study 
conducted by the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA).

The UTSA study demonstrates that Port San Antonio, the industrial park 
formed in the wake of Kelly Air Force Base's closure, currently has an 
annual total economic impact of $2.5 billion. However, with recent 
announcements by port tenants The Boeing Co. (NYSE: BA) and the U.S. Air 
Force, another $808 million in economic benefits is projected to be 
generated annually. Last year, the Boeing center in San Antonio was 
selected to perform work in support of Boeing's new 787 Dreamliner 
aircraft. The Air Force is in the midst of a consolidation.
