Navy re-evaluating truck routes through county in light of community outcry By Tanya Rose Contra Costa Times (CA) June 16, 2008CONCORD - More than 100 dump trucks could snake through Contra Costa County daily starting in July, carrying loads of dirt to the shuttered Concord Naval Weapons Station, where it will be used to cover a hazardous landfill. Navy officials plan to transport around 9,000 truckloads of dirt starting July 23 to cap a 13-acre landfill on the tidal portion of the base, and are asking residents to come to a June 25 meeting to discuss details. While there seems to be little worry in the community over the landfill project itself, some are concerned about the daily truck traffic in the course of over two months.
