State: Speed up cleanup of Area BOfficial wants contaminated Fort Detrick site on Superfund list within 30 days By Justin M. Palk Frederick News-Post (MD) June 18, 2008Maryland's Secretary of the Environment is criticizing the federal government for dragging its feet on investigating groundwater contamination at Fort Detrick's Area B. In a letter dated June 4, Shari Wilson, Maryland Secretary of the Environment, urged the Environmental Protection Agency to add Area B to the Superfund program's National Priorities List within 30 days. "The continued delay perpetuates the unacceptably long timeline that this investigation continues to take," Wilson wrote. West of the developed portion of Fort Detrick, Area B is where the Army used to dispose of lab waste, including chemicals and incinerated biological waste. ...
