City proposes housing at Army Reserve property in Multnomah Village Portland Business Journal June 23, 2008A picturesque Army Reserve post in Multnomah Village will be developed with low-income and emergency housing under a plan scheduled to go before the Portland City Council on Wednesday. Together with a separate facility in North Portland, the Sgt. Jerome Sears United States Army Reserve Center was targeted for closure by the U.S. Department of Defense in the 2005 Defense Base Closure and Realignment. Both posts will close by 2011 and training operations will move to a third site. The federal government will donate the properties and has the final say on how they are used. The government has a preference for projects that target education or low-income housing. For the Sears property, local organizations had hoped the city would adopt a low-impact plan that maintains the small property's pastoral nature. ...
