Army rejects petition for study of biolabs By Justin M. Palk Frederick News-Post (MD) July 1, 2008The U.S. Army Medical Command denied a group's petition for an independent study of the proposed expansion of biodefense labs at Fort Detrick. In March, the group, Frederick Citizens for Biolab Safety, asked the Army to fund a National Academy of Sciences study of the U.S. Army Medical Research Institute of Infectious Diseases' plan to build a lab on post. The new building would contain expanded biosecurity level-4 spaces where researchers study agents that pose a high risk of causing life-threatening disease for which no vaccine or therapy is available, such as Ebola and anthrax. ...
