Navy to leave Hangar One's steel skeleton standing By Jason Green Bay Area News Group/San Jose Mercury News July 30, 2008The group working to save Hangar One at Moffett Field saw half of its wish fulfilled Wednesday when the Navy announced plans to remove the structure's toxic panels and leave its steel framework in place. The announcement comes more than two years after the Navy said demolition is the most cost-effective way to rid the site of PCBs, asbestos and other toxins. Because of public outcry, the Navy agreed to re-examine that decision. Members of the Save Hangar One Committee were mixed in their reaction to Wednesday's long-awaited announcement. ...
