Concord may ignore Navy deadline on former weapons station by Marie-Anne Hogarth East Bay Business Times (CA) August 12, 2008The city of Concord says it will take the time it needs to adopt a plan for redevelopment of the 5,028-acre former Concord Naval Weapons Station, even if that means blowing off a deadline from the Department of Defense. Concord asked the DOD's Office of Economic Adjustment for a 12-month extension from the original June 2008 deadline to create a redevelopment plan for the land, but was only given through Sept. 20. Also by that time, Concord must also submit an agreement with providers of homeless services who have applied to use the site, common in base redevelopments. The city says it will ask for another extension, but move forward with its own process regardless of whether it gets the extension or not. ...
