Army Reopens Process Of Selecting Middletown Training Facility

MIDDLETOWN -

Resident and government opposition to the Army's preferred site for a 
regional training facility in Middletown has led Army officials to 
reopen the site selection process.

While the Boardman Lane site, in the Westfield section of the city, 
remains a possible location, the Army will now also look at smaller 
sites than it originally needed.

The change follows a recommendation by Gov. M. Jodi Rell that the 
National Guard's 250th Engineering Company be excluded from the 
facility, allowing the project to be scaled down. The engineering unit 
would remain in New London, while six other National Guard units would 
eventually be located in Middletown in the facility of more than 200,000 
square feet.
