Goddard: Building near military sites threatens safety, economy by David Madrid The Arizona Republic September 6, 2008Arizona Attorney General Terry Goddard said that by issuing building permits in restricted zones near military installations, Maricopa County threatens public safety and endangers the economic well-being of the entire state. Goddard said he took up the cause at the request of West Valley cities that want to stop the county from allowing residential encroachment on Luke Air Force Base, its Auxiliary Field 1 and Gila Bend Auxiliary Air Field. At stake if the county prevails is no less than the fate of all the state's military installations, which have a $9 billion economic impact on Arizona, Goddard said. ...
