UXO clearing in Vietnam is the US responsibility: US official

Deputy Assistant Secretary for Plans, Programmes and Operations Bureau 
of Political-Military Affairs Stephen T. Ganyard said the US is 
expanding its cooperation programme to clear unexploded ordinance (UXO) 
with Vietnam and considers it the US' responsibility.


Aiming to promote cooperation programmes on UXO clearing, US officials 
conducted a field trip to the central provinces of Quang Binh and Quang 
Tri, which have the largest volumes of UXO in Vietnam.

Quang Binh and Quang Tri are listed in the US Department of State-funded 
programme to research and make a map on UXO pollution, which will be 
released in the next few weeks to assist non-governmental organisations 
(NGOs) that perform UXO-clearing projects in Vietnam.
