FAA upgrades Pratt airport By Gale Rose The Pratt Tribune (KS) September 12, 2008 Pratt, Kan. -The Pratt Industrial Airport status was elevated from a business airport to a regional airport. The change in status will allow for more growth at the airport. ...The airport still has a carbon tetrachloride problem. The Army Corps of Engineers said the presence of carbon tetrachloride in the soil at the base was not their problem and the airport would have to take care of the matter their selves. The Corps of Engineers suggests that grain stored in an airport hangar was fumigated with carbon tetrachloride and it somehow managed to leech into the soil and contaminated the water wells on the base. The level of contamination exceeds the exposure limit for human contact and that well is only used to fight fires. The contamination in the other well doesn’t exceed the minimums but that water is not used for drinking water, Bell said. ...
