Edison takes title to cleaned-up Superfund site By RICK MALWITZ Scarlet Scuttlebutt (NJ) September 22, 2008For the longest time homeowners living near the Chemical Insecticide Corporation were aware of the nature of its business, without considering the environmental costs. ...Soon neighbors would learn that CIC's 5.7-acre property was among the most polluted in the country, and would require a staggering $53 million for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to clean under its Superfund program. Yesterday, neighbors who attended a press conference at the site, learned that it was given a clean bill of health after the EPA removed more than 350,000 tons of contaminated soil, digging as deep as 30 feet. ...
