District continues plan to demolish building

Chambersburg Area School District is proceeding with plans to demolish a 
building on land adjacent to the proposed Cumberland Valley Animal Shelter.

The school district will accept bids until Oct. 30 to remove asbestos 
from a former Army barracks (Building 616) on South Patrol Road near the 
Cumberland Valley Business Park.

"It's falling down. You've got to clean it up," school district Business 
Manager Rick Vensel said.

Work is to be done in December. The derelict barracks has a collapsed 
roof. The school owns the property and uses two nearby buildings.
