Hill AFB buildings to be tested for chemical vapors StandardNET October 23, 2008HILL AIR FORCE BASE -- Environmental engineers will take air samples from seven buildings at Hill Air Force Base next month after a recent study uncovered degreasing solvent vapors in nearby soil. The vapors were found in a set of office buildings on Hill's west side. The buildings are former World War II era warehouses converted into office space and are commonly referred to as the "1200 series." The solvent vapors come primarily from the chemicals tetrachloroethene, or PCE, and trichloroethene, or TCE, which were used regularly at Hill until the mid-1970s. ...
