By PETER JOHNSON Great Falls Tribune (MT) November 7, 2008Cascade County voters overwhelmingly rejected a bond issue Tuesday to spend $3.2 million — or a tax increase of $9 a year on a home assessed for tax purposes of $100,000 — to protect future use of the dormant Malmstrom Air Force Base runway. Supporters of the bond issue are shaking their heads at the magnitude of the 63 percent to 37 percent defeat and aren't sure what, if anything, to do next. The landowner and developers of a proposed upscale housing development southeast of town did not return phone calls seeking comment on whether they will move forward with the project, given the current economic climate. ...
