Hillsborough committee OKs next step for GSA depot redevelopment By PAMELA SROKA-HOLZMANN New Brunswick Home News Tribune (NJ) November 17, 2008The Township Committee has approved the next step for the redevelopment plan for the General Services-Belle Mead Depot, introducing an ordinance to transform the depot into a park and recreation area, with portions of the property zoned for research and development. ...The redevelopment plan is necessary for the township to apply for a state brownfields grant to clean up the environmentally compromised property by addressing low levels of surface soil contamination caused by railroad ballast, and oil used to control dust on the site. Officials want to begin that work this year. ...Mayor Anthony Ferrera said the township hopes to get state funding for the estimated $17 million cost to clean up the property. A state grant could fund up to 75 percent of the cleanup cost, Ferrera has said. ...
