Hawk’s Nest goes from contamination to recreation By Amanda Kerr Virginia Gazette December 6, 2008 YORKAfter nearly a decade of planning, work has begun to clear 300 acres once owned by the Navy for a public golf course. Hawk’s Nest Golf Club will be an 18-hole course designed by Jacobson Golf Course Design Inc. of Illinois. Govco Builders of Newport News is the developer funding the venture. The project will include a clubhouse, maintenance facilities, a driving range and a golf academy for lessons. The course will be accessed by Hawk’s Nest Drive off Penniman Road, near the entrance to Cheatham Annex. The property is tucked between the Yorktown Naval Weapons Station, Cheatham Annex and land owned by the National Park Service. ...
