Study finds low level of Badger plant contamination in Wisconsin River BARRY ADAMS Wisconsin State Journal January 22, 2010A chemical used at the Badger Army Ammunition Plant has begun to seep into the Wisconsin River, according to a study released Friday, but officials say the contaminants are well below the level at which a health advisory would be issued. In September, SpecPro, a company hired by the Army to study contamination in groundwater, reported that two residential wells at Weigand's Bay along the river in the town of Merrimac had tested positive for low levels of dinitrotoluene (DNT). The chemical was dumped at the weapons complex from 1942 until 1975. The dumping sites are about 1 1/2 miles from Weigand's Bay. The December study released Friday said low levels of DNT have now been found to be going into the river. ...
