Millions of gallons of jet fuel leaked from AFB for decades By Stuart Dyson KOB TV Eyewitness News 4 (Albuquerque, NM) May 19, 2010The huge jet fuel leak from Kirtland Air Force Base continues to inch its way toward city water wells, prompting base commanders to meet on Wednesday with a city advisory board. The Air Force has already spent $10 million on the leak, which scientists believe started in the 1950s, although it wasn’t discovered by the Air Force until 1999. State scientists estimate the leak at eight million gallons, but the Air Force believes it's under two million gallons. "It's a definite concern," said Lindsey Gabaldon, who lives in the Southeast Heights neighborhood where the fuel is seeping northward, far below ground. "I wish they were being a little more vocal about what they're doing about it. We've read about it for years and they're still having meetings." ...
