Isn't it about time for the Japanese to step and assume considerably more responsibility for their defense? After 60 years it seems appropriate. The Okinawa people certainly felt the devastation of the American assault in 1945 but were appreciative that they were somewhat freed from the Japanese yoke. More U.S. bases in Japan proper is certainly in order as might be required. While we can remain a loyal and supportive ally of Japan, we should not nurse them along any further. They have to come to grips with the total cost of freedom.
