Depot panels to push for solar energy Committees say more base development could happen. By JOHN NORTON Pueblo Chieftain (CO) June 17, 2010Members of the panels overseeing the civilian uses of the Pueblo Chemical Depot, buoyed by President Barack Obama's pledge Tuesday night to develop more alternative energy resources, agreed to ask Pueblo's congressional delegation to pressure the Army to let solar energy companies obtain long-term leases on the base. The Pueblo Depot Activity Development Authority and Reuse Commission have been stymied for months in an attempt to provide land for solar developers at the largely unused Army base. A request to add 2,000 acres to the authority's master lease got no farther than Lt. Col. Rob Wittig's desk because the base commander was told by higher-ups that it wasn't going to happen. ...
