Demolition begins at college on former base By ELYSSE JAMES Orange County Register (CA) July 23, 2010TUSTIN - The Advanced Technology & Education Park on the former Marine base has gotten approval to tear down old military buildings, making way for a campus expansion. Buildings and utility infrastructure on about 68 acres at Valencia and Red Hill avenues will be demolished, officials said. The campus offers classes leading to high-tech jobs for students from Mission Viejo to Tustin. The campus opened in Aug. 2007 at Tustin Legacy and is part of the South Orange County Community College District. The first phase of the expansion will increase workforce development and advanced technology training, said Tere Fluegeman, director of public information and marketing. The colleges are still planning which new programs will be offered at the campus, she said. ...
