Low altitude flyovers create controversy

San Luis Valley - Controversy surrounds the proposed use of northern New Mexico and southern Colorado for low altitude tactical navigation training by the Air Force and opposition has been widespread.

A contingent of Southern Colorado lawmakers are holding a press conference in opposition of the low altitude tactical navigation area on Saturday, September 25 at 1:30 p.m. on the steps of the Pueblo County Court House.

A citizens group formed in Taos on Sept. 15, The Peaceful Skies Coalition, is against the Air Force proposal for a variety of reasons, including disruption of wildlife, ranching, farming, a quiet lifestyle and economy, and intensive aviation fuel contamination of the air, land and water.
