Advisory board rejects $32 million marina plan

Members of the Truman Waterfront Advisory Board on Friday voted 4-2 to 
reject a conceptual plan for development at the Truman Waterfront 
brought by the Meisel Spottswood Marina Management Co.

Board Chairman Jim Gilleran criticized the plan to put in a destination 
park and mega-yacht marina on 23 aces of the parcel as not retaining the 
"public" components that were deemed vital throughout a decade-plus 
planning process.

Board member Ashish Soni suggested a series of public meetings and 
workshops to re-evaluate community needs at the Truman Waterfront. The 
entire 33-acre parcel was given to the city in the late 1990s through 
the U.S. Navy's base closure program.
