Weymouth base cleanup gets advocacy group review By Ed Baker Weymouth News (MA) November 8, 2010Weymouth - Groundwater at the former South Weymouth Naval Air Station will probably remain unfit for human consumption, but could be used to water an eventual 18-hole golf course on the site. The Advocates of Rockland, Abington, Weymouth, and Hingham (ARAWH) reviewed a summary of an ongoing cleanup of pollutants at the base by the Navy from Cambridge Environmental consultant Steve Zemba on Nov. 4. ...Some of the concerns include “vapor intrusion” or the release of volatile organic compounds in the soils and groundwater near a former vehicle storage site (Building 81) and an aircraft maintenance site.
