Residents query MMR on spreading plume By George Brennan Cape Cod Times (MA) December 16, 2010CAMP EDWARDS - Several residents, including one with a private well, showed up to a meeting of the Massachusetts Military Reservation Cleanup Team yesterday to ask about a contaminated plume that may be headed for their Pocasset neighborhood. The Army Impact Area Groundwater Study Program detected levels of the contaminant, perchlorate, above state standards along the base boundary. The military has asked for permission from town leaders to do test wells along MacArthur Boulevard and eventually may do them in the Williams Avenue neighborhood. Officials aren't worried about public health because homeowners in the area get their water from town water supplies. But a homeowner on Williams Avenue said he has a private well on his property that's used for irrigation. ...
