Benicia postpones Arsenal decision By Tony Burchyns Vallejo Times-Herald (CA) January 6, 2010BENICIA -- As a February meeting between the city, other Arsenal property owners and the Justice Department creeps closer, the City Council has again postponed hiring a cleanup consultant. After several delays, council members late Tuesday night further delayed hiring ERS Inc., an environmental risk management firm well versed in managing and securing funding for military base cleanups. ...The 3,000-acre former Army base closed in 1963. The state has pressured the Department of Defense to perform further cleanup work for years, but the Army claims others also may bear responsibility for Arsenal contamination, including private industries. ...
