Plan submitted to clean old IBM gun club Contaminated soil would be trucked away By William Moyer Binghamton Press & Sun-Bulletin (NY) January 15, 2011UNION -- After all the shots were fired more than a decade ago, the ground at IBM's former gun club in the Town of Union was left with various contaminants, including arsenic, copper and lead. Under the state's brownfield program, IBM Corp. has submitted a plan to finish cleanup of the club and shooting range's ground off Robinson Hill Road between Struble Road and the Binghamton Country Club. If the state Department of Environmental Conservation approves IBM's proposed remedy, 20-to-40 truckloads of contaminated soil would be removed daily for up to eight weeks in late spring or early summer and hauled to a state-approved landfill. Clean soil would be brought to the gun club site, graded and seeded, as necessary, according to the DEC. Groundwater was not contaminated. ...
